The next day, Eren is having problems with his gear, and how he's using it. She then says that she will, earning a grudge from Jean's side. Then, he sees Eren, who is asking her to cut her hair. As Mikasa is heading out, Jean notices her and compliments her hair, developing a crush.
Later, Jean proposes to call a truce, which Eren agrees to do. This stirs an argument between the two, and starts a rivalry. He then retorts how his dreams are better than someone who shakes in his boots and pretends to be brave. The latter recognizes Jean as the guy who wants to take it easy by joining the MPs. Jean replies by asking if he's out of his mind.
They officially met while Eren talked about his dreams to defeat all of the Titans.
Jean replies by saying that he'll join the Military Police and live safely in the interior, at what Eren simply looked at him. Eren first knew of Jean on the first day of enlistment, where Shadis asked of his name, origins and why he's here.
